Organic grapes harvested manually, looking for the optimum moment of ripeness for each varieties, with the aim of achieving a base wine with good freshness suitable for noble aging. Vinified on the estate with strict white winemaking. The grapes are lightly pressed to only extract the first pressing must, and then the fermentation is done in separated vats. Made through the traditional method, this cava has been aged on its lees for a minimum of 35 months. Released on the market without any dosage (Brut Nature), each bottle displays the disgorgement date and exact ageing months. VEGAN
The 2021 vintage was marked by a noticeable drought, both during the growing and harvest season. The low rainfall led to a significant decrease in grape production and advanced ripening for early varieties. The cool temperatures of mid-September brought along a positive stop in the grape maturation of the late varieties. As a result of the conditions described, we are talking about a harvest characterized by an exceptional health, with a good concentration, structure and acidity. All in all, a vintage with limited production of outstanding quality white wines and well-balanced reds.
Alta Alella is a family-run project, since 1991, by Josep Maria Pujol-Busquets and wife Cristina Guillen. Alta Alella is the closest winery to Barcelona (10 km), it’s located within the agricultural area of a natural park known as the “Serralada de Marina’. The estate is just two km away from the Mediterranean Sea and the vineyards are planted on slopes and terraces between 100 and 250 meters above the sea level.
The vines are grown on Sauló soil which is one of the most important element that determines the characters of wines from Alta Alella: an acidic white granite-based sand with low limestone content, low organic matter and good drainage. Fleeing from standardization, year after year, Josep Maria's aim is to produce ‘transparent’ wines, that reflect soil and vintage characteristics. The harvest is carried out by hand, paying individual attention to each plant.
