In his early 40s right now, Nathan Kendall is a young guy with an impressive resume. The Finger Lakes native was a Wine Enthusiast 40 Under 40 Tastemaker in 2018 and Vine Pair’s Next Wave Winemaker of the year in 2023. He is an internationally trained Winemaker who has experience in Sonoma, Willamette Valley, Waipara (NZ), Adelaide Hills (AUS), and Mosel (GER), although the plan was always to return to the shores of Seneca Lake. His passion is to create wines in an old world style using quality grapes and minimal intervention. His parents own Hickory Hollow winery, which he has been the winemaker at since 2016. On top of those projects, he additionally works with French sommelier Pascaline Lepaltier on the Chepika project wines, focusing on pet-nats with native New York non-vinifera varieties.
N. Kendall Wines is in Dundee, NY on Seneca Lake, founded in 2011. Having traveled throughout the world focusing on cool climate regions and varietals, Nathan focuses on Riesling and Pinot noir. All wines are 100% estate grown fruit, carefully sorted, and naturally fermented. All wines have long lees aging to enhance the texture, then are carefully racked. Wines are never fined, but receive gentle filtration before bottling. Total yearly production is approx 4,000 cases.
