Common Wealth Crush is an incubator program, collaborative space, and custom crush facility in Virginia’s Shenandoah Valley. It can cost $500,000+ to start a winery, so custom crushes open doors for small producers by providing vineyards, equipment, and expert mentorship without the large price tag. CWC gives new wine brands the resources to launch into business for free for one year. Founded by Ben Jordan of Lightwell Survey, his brother Tim, and celebrated sommelier Lee Campbell (of Borgo in NYC). As an African-American woman in beverage, Campbell has become one of the industry's most important advocates for equity, accessibility, and representation. She is often credited as a key figure in bringing natural wine to the NYC restaurant scene 30 years ago! Through her wine programs, writing, education, or winemaking, Campbell continues to create spaces for more voices at the table. CWC has created a space for the next generation of Virginia winemakers. Their own line of wines focuses on local hybrid grapes and produces wine with minimal to no additions.
